Backside Smith Grind

Information:
The smith grind is a grind that will take some time to learn. Getting the right amount of pressure to put on your tail is hard, and can be frustrating to learn. Before learning this trick you should be able to 50-50 and if you can do other grinds such as 5-0 or Salad Grind it could help too.

Description:
While rolling the skateboarder jumps and the skateboard comes off the ground with him/her. He/she lands with the hangar of the back truck on the obstacle. He/she lowers the front end of the board so that it is to the side of the object and hanging below to grinding surface. Some of the middle of the board also touches the object. He/she continues riding while the truck and the obstacle grind together. He/she jumps off the obstacle with the board and land on all four wheels.

Technique:
1. Find a grindable rail, ledge or whatever. It would probably be easier to learn on flat rail because you don’t get stuck as often, but it will also be scarier, and slightly more dangerous.

2. Push a few times and get rolling. The faster you go, the longer you’ll be able to grind for.

3. Ride parallel up to the object you’re going to grind with your feet as you would have them for an ollie.

4. Bend your knees and pop your tail. Ollie up and over the object like you were going to 50-50 or 5-0, but don’t put your front truck on the object. Instead push it down beside the object so that the rail of your board (the side of your deck) is touching the object a bit, and you front truck is hanging below the grinding surface of the object.

5. When you’re at the end of the object give your tail a slight pop and land back on the ground on all four wheels. Ride away.
