Backside Salad Grind
Information:
The Salad Grind is a variation of the 5-0. Before trying this you should be able to 5-0.
Description:
While rolling the skateboarder jumps and the skateboard comes off the ground with him/her. He/she lands with the hangar of the back truck on the obstacle and the front of the board turned away from the object (like a crooked grind on the back truck). He/she continues to ride as the truck and the object grind together. When ready, he/she jumps off the obstacle with the board and lands on all four wheels.
Technique:
1. Find a grindable rail, ledge, low box or whatever. I find it easier to do on a ledge, so you might want to try there first.
2. Push a few times and get some speed, the faster the longer you’ll be able to grind for.
3. Ride parallel up to the object you’re going to grind with your feet as you would have them an ollie.
4. Bend your knees and pop your tail. Ollie up and turn about 25 degrees. Push down a bit on the tail so that only your back truck lands on the object. Keep you’re balance using your arms. It doesn’t matter whether your tail touches or not, it’s all about your personal style, but I find it looks nicer if it isn’t touching.
5. When you’re at the end of the object give your tail a slight pop and turn back 25 degrees in the air. Land back on the ground on all four wheels. Ride away.
Additional Help:
Problem: When I land on the object I don’t slide.
Reason: You’re turning too much before you land on the obstacle.
Solution: Try to land on the obstacle in the 5-0 position, but slightly turned out into a salad grind position. Once you are already on the obstacle begin to turn out more into the salad grind position.
